Recode example for modern reports

This example shows how to recode categorical answers to number values and use them in a modern report.

Create a Single Choice question

Create the original question you will base your recode on.

  1. Open the Surveys app and create a new survey.
  2. Add a Single Choice question and name it Satisfaction.
  3. Add the following answers:

    • Very Satisfied
    • Somewhat Satisfied
    • Neither Satisfied nor Dissatisfied
    • Somewhat Dissatisfied
    • Very Dissatisfied

Create a recode

Create you report and add a recode field.

  1. Click the Report tab and then click Modern Reporting and open a modern report for your survey.
  2. On the report toolbar, click Recodes.
  3. Click New Recode.
  4. Click Convert to Numbers.
  5. In Recode Name, enter CSAT Value.
  6. In the Select drop-down list, select the Satisfaction field you created previously.
  7. Verify the numbers assigned to each answer. Adjust the numbers so that "Very Dissatisfied" is 1 and "Very Satisfied" is 5. "Did not answer" should be assigned a value of 0.
  8. Click Done.
  9. Click Exit Recodes.

Add the recode to a modern report

Add a new tile to your report to display the recode field and customize the statistics displayed.

  1. Click the Add/Delete Tiles drop-down list, and select Add Data Tile.
  2. In the Select Field(s) page, click the Recodes tab.
  3. Select the checkbox next to CSAT Value.
  4. Click Add.
  5. To configure the calculations displayed click the tile's Options menu and select Tile Settings, and then select the calculations to display in the Calculations drop-down list.
