Translate questions using the locale switcher

Switch between locales in survey authoring and make quick changes to each locale's content in your multilingual survey.

Ideally, you should complete all translations before distributing a survey for the first time. However, if you need to distribute the survey in its default locale before translations are complete, the application will not prevent you from doing so.

Note: Multilingual survey authoring in Community is only available to customers who have multiple communities with different locales. If you are interested in multiple communities, please contact your Account Representative.
  1. From the locale switcher, select the locale to view the survey content.
Result: The survey content of the selected locale appears in the Translation Pane.
  2. In the Translations workspace, select the survey object you want to translate.
  3. Make required changes to the survey content in the selected locale.

To help ensure the accuracy of your translations, the application displays the default locale text beside the boxes where you will enter your translated text.

Example: Translate content from English (United States) to French (Canada)

    Default English (United States) content:

    Translated French (Canada) content:

Note: If translations are not available for the selected locale:
    • Text-based content will appear empty.
    • The image and alt text from the default locale will be used.
    • Subtitles will not be displayed.
    Note: Localizable elements include:
    • Question and answer text
    • The row and columns text for grid questions
    • End survey messages and redirect URL
    • Images and alt text
    • Subtitle files

    Non-localizable elements include:

    • Highlighter questions
    • Number responses
    • Question names and properties
  4. Translate images and alt text.
Note: Whether or not you upload different images for different survey translations, you must translate alt text.

    Translated images are useful if:

    • There are language strings in the image.
    • You want to show different versions to audiences who use different languages.

For example, if you are testing logos for English and French markets, the logo or company name may be slightly different in each language, requiring you to upload different images.

    1. In the translation column on the right, click Change beside the image you want to update.
    2. Click Browse and select the image.
    3. Type the translated alt text.
This step is required whether or not you upload a different image.
    4. Click Change.
    5. To reset the image to the original and remove the alt text translation, click Reset.
    6. To remove the image in the survey translation, click Delete.
  5. Optional: If you have videos, upload translated subtitles.
  6. Optional: To preview the translated survey content in desktop or mobile view, in the Edit Pane, click Preview.
Result: A preview of the survey content from your selected locale appears.
