Set Value

Set Value actions use conditions to set the value of a question within your survey based on information you have already collected.

You can use a Set Value action to:

  • Combine values from multiple data points into a question.
  • Summarize responses from open end questions into a single or multiple choice question.
  • Preset an answer value before displaying a single or multiple choice question.
  • Determine conditional text to display in a follow up questions.
  • Export device type statistics.

Set Value actions should be set up before survey distribution.

For example work flows, see Set Value action: Examples.

How Set Value actions work

The following image and corresponding table describe the components of a Set Value action and how they interact with each other.

Number Name Description
1 Source

The question or profile variable that contains the responses you want to summarize or combine with a new single or multiple choice data point.

You can base a Set Value action on more than one question or profile variable (or a combination thereof) as long they appear before the action in the Table of Contents.

2 Set Value action

Uses the responses in the Source question or profile variable to select an answer in a Single or Multiple Choice question.

Set Value actions are not visible to participants.

3 Condition

A series of rules that define how the responses in the Source question or profile variable are to be summarized or combined.

4 Action Rule

Combines or summarizes the responses in the Source based on the condition you created, and then selects an answer in a Single or Multiple Choice question.

5 Target

A Single or Multiple Choice question that stores the values based on the conditions and Action Rules you created in the Set Value action.

When you distribute your survey, participants will see your Source question.

The response to the Source question is passed through the Set Value action, which selects the answer in the Target question for the participant.
