Create a mask

Chain the answer options of one question to the participant's answer to a previous question.

Note:
  • Visual questions do not support masking. For scripting options, speak to your Account Representative.
  • If masking is not available for a question type, you cannot add a mask to it. However, you can use answers from that question type to create a mask in other question types.
  1. In Power Survey Authoring, click the Questionnaire tab.
  2. Select the question in the Question tree.
  3. Under Add, click Mask.
    Result:

    The Mask Questions section appears.

  4. From the Selected answers from list, select the question that you want to base the current question's answers on.
    Result:

The possible answers to your selected question now appear in the Mask Questions section.

  5. Select Include or Exclude.
    • Include: the answer options of the new question include only the respondent’s answers from the question you are linking this question to.
    • Exclude: the answer options of the new question do not include the respondent’s answers from the question you are linking this question to.
  6. Optional: Add additional answers to the question.
For example, you can add an answer for None of the above.
    1. Click Answer.
    2. In the dialog, type the answer text, and then click OK.
Note: The additional answers remain outside the bounds of the mask.
  7. Click Save.
