Answer order
You can automatically change the answer order in which participants see answers. You can either have the answer displayed in a different, random order each time the question is presented or you can rotate the answers each time the question is presented to a participant.
To randomize or rotate the answers, use the Answer order property. The Answer order property has three options:
- As Authored: all participants see the answers in the order that they were created.
- Randomize: each participant sees a random order of answers.
- Rotate: each time the question is displayed to participants, the answer order is rotated.
Randomize
The following images illustrate how randomization works with a Buttons question. The answers are randomly arranged each time the question is shown to a new participant.
1st Randomization | 2nd Randomization | 3rd Randomization |

Rotate
The images below illustrate how rotation works with a Buttons question. The answers rotate left one position each time the question is presented to a new participant.

Framing the buttons
You can decide whether to have a button frame, or outline, around each answer option. Select the Use Button Frame check box include a frame around each answer option or clear it to exclude the frames.
- The Use Button Frame property only applies to answers that have an image. Text only answers will always have a frame regardless of this setting.
- To ensure that there is no frame around unselected answer options, the Button Tint property must be blank.
- The color of selected answer options is not adjustable.
When Use Button Frame is selected, answer options look like this.
When Use Button Frame is clear, answer options look like this.
Button tint
This property determines the color of the buttons.
To set the button color, click the Button Tint field, and then select a color from the color picker.
Alternatively, enter a hexadecimal color value in the Button Tint field. To find hexadecimal color values, do an Internet search for "hexadecimal color codes."
