Export members or profile variables

Create a custom CSV export file to view and analyze member data outside of the application. Perform this task when you want to choose the profile variables to export.

Note: Calculated Date profile variables cannot be exported.
  1. Export members or profile variables by doing one of the following:
    • Open the Community app, and select Community > Member Groups.
    • Open the Community app, and select Community > Profile Variables.
    • Open the Community app, and select Community > Members.
  2. On the toolbar, click Export.
Result: The Export Profile Data dialog appears.
  3. Click New.
  4. From the Member Group list, select a member group.

Any profile variables used in the filter that defines the member group are automatically selected for inclusion in the export. You can deselect the checkbox beside any of these profile variables if you do not want to include them.

Note: Sensitive data profile variables are only selected for Admins, and for users with the Can access sensitive data permission.
  5. In the Profile Variables area, select any other member variables you want to include in your export.
    Tip:
    • Click Variable Name, Type, or Description, to sort the columns in ascending or descending order.
    • In the Find field, enter a keyword to search for a variable by name.
    • Sensitive profile variables can only be selected by Admins and users with the Can access sensitive data permission.
  6. Click Export.
    Result:
    • The export starts running. You can perform tasks in other areas of the application while the export file is prepared.
    • Clicking the notification button at the top right of the page opens the notification center. In the notification center, you can find a message with a link to the download page.
    • If a field in the CSV file is blank, it means that no variable value exists for the member.
Note: The export excludes data collected through survey links.
  7. Optional: In the Export Profile Data page, click Download to download the export file.

Users who do not have Can access sensitive data enabled cannot download exports that contain sensitive data.

  8. Optional: To delete the download link, click the Delete next to the download link.
Note: Download links are available in the application for seven days before they are automatically deleted.

The CSV file contains the following information:

  • email: The member's email address.
  • community: The name of the member's community.
  • The profile variables you selected.

For Purged members, the export displays a value of Purged instead of the actual sensitive data value. For more information, see Sensitive data.
