Participate in a video discussion

Join a video discussion session as a participant.

Prerequisites:

You need a computer with a working webcam and microphone to join the video discussion.

Tips for ensuring an optimal experience:

  • Show up 15 minutes early - this way we can make sure you're ready to go and that the session starts and ends on time.
  • Use a headset or earbuds to reduce echo and background noise.
  • Find yourself somewhere comfortable, quiet and bright so we can see and hear you.
  • If possible, restart your computer before you join to close any other applications or programs that may be running in the background.
  • If you are connecting from home, ask others at home to avoid downloading big files or streaming content during the session to avoid slowing your internet connection.
  1. Copy and paste the link to the session into the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.
The link takes you to a page where you can complete your details. You must tick the box confirming that you have read through the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service before clicking Continue.
Note: Depending on the settings chosen by the discussion host, your name may be shown as a pseudonym (for example, Panelist #1) in the meeting room and recording. Your video may also be blurred in the session recording.
  2. Allow the browser access to your devices by clicking Allow.
  3. In Device Settings, select your audio/video device settings and whether you want to join with your camera and microphone on or off. When settings are selected, click Join Meeting.
    Result:

You are automatically joined to the live meeting room. If your camera and microphone are on then anyone who is also joined to the live meeting room (like support, translator, and other moderators) will be able to see and hear you immediately.

Note: The user interface language for Video Discussions depends on your web browser language settings. If your interview will be conducted in a non-English language, you can adjust your browser language to match the interview language setting. Consult the documentation for your web browser to change the language setting.
  4. Optional: During the discussion, a moderator may request that you share your screen. When you see the prompt on screen, click Share Screen.
Note: Participants can only share their screen if joining the session from a desktop computer. Participants cannot share their screen from a mobile device.
