HTML editor: Restricted elements

For security purposes, you cannot use JavaScript elements and GlobalEventHandlers in the text editor when it is in HTML mode. To add JavaScript to questions, portal content boxes, and entry quotas, use the Script Editor.

To access the Script Editor, click Edit Scripts.
