Images: Best practices

You can add images to question text or answer options in the application. Follow these best practices to ensure that your images enhance your survey.

File naming conventions

Use a consistent file naming convention to make it easier to locate image files.

Recommendations:

  • Include the question name if applicable.
  • Include descriptive words in the name.
  • Use CamelCase (capitalize the first letter of each word) for multi-word names.
  • Use underscores (_) or dashes (-) to separate logical sections of the name.
  • Do not include spaces or special characters, except underscores (_) and dashes (-).
Example

Q5_SleepingCat.jpeg

File size and format

Image files must be:
  • GIF, JPG, JPEG, or PNG format
  • 5 MB or less
  • 900 pixels wide or less
Note: Community resizes and formats extremely large images; however, this may degrade the image quality. Images that are 200-600 pixels wide will meet most of your survey needs.

Testing with ad-blocking software

Ad and popup-blocking software such as Ad Block may prevent images from loading based on how images are named. To ensure your images appear properly, test your survey using Ad Block in a couple of different web browsers.
