Create a loop

Ask members a repeated series of questions without re-creating them every time.

The following question types cannot be added to a loop:
  • Allocation Grid
  • Allocation Sliders
  • Card Sort
  • Grids
  • Magnetic Boards
  • Rank Order Grid
  • Rank Order Sort
  • Scale Slider
  • Visual Grids
Example

You want to ask members a series of identical questions about several brands. Instead of creating the same questions for each brand, you use a loop to create the questions once, and then ask members to complete the questions for each brand.

  1. In Power Survey Authoring, click the Questionnaire tab.
  2. On the Authoring Navigation Bar, hover over Folder, and then select Loop.
  3. In the New Loop dialog, type a name for the loop, and then click OK.
    Result: The new loop is added in the Question tree.
  4. In the loop, click Answer Text.
  5. In the Loops dialog, type the names of the items that you want to change in each question, and then click OK.

    To ask members a series of identical questions about several brands, you add each brand name to the Loops dialog.

  6. Click Save.
  7. To add questions to the loop, in the Question tree, drag the questions into the loop.
  8. To add the loop items to each question, type [%nameOfLoop%] in the appropriate location in the question text.

  9. Optional: Randomize or rotate the questions and items.
    1. In the Question tree, click the loop.
    2. In the Properties section, select whether to randomize or rotate the questions.
      • Randomize Once: randomize the order of the questions for the first item, and then retain the authored order.
      • Randomize All: randomize the order of the questions for all items.
      • Rotate: rotate the order of the questions. The first question appears second, the second question third, and so on.
    3. In the Properties section, select whether to randomize or rotate the items.
      • As authored: items remain in the order that you added them.
      • Randomize: items appear in random order for each participant.
      • Rotate: items rotate for each participant. The first item appears section, the second item third, and so on.
  10. Click Save.
