Highlighter

A Highlighter question, which asks the participant to highlight areas of an image, is useful for product packaging or layout tests. A Highlighter question can only contain one image.

For more information about adding images, see Images: Best practices.

Mobile surveys

The HTML version of the Highlighter question does not appear in mobile view when the Respondent Access is set to Mobile only.

To make the HTML version of the Highlighter available to all participants, change the setting to Web survey for everyone. No special mobile view. Participants who view the HTML render of your survey on a mobile device will see a smaller version of the question (as well as any other question types that are not supported in mobile view), and may need to zoom on the page to see the question text and images.

For more information, see Set access for computer and mobile respondents.

Reporting

You can report on a Highlighter question with a heat map.

Note: If you use an animated GIF in a Highlighter question, only the first frame of the GIF appears in the heat map.

Image size

The maximum dimensions for an image that can be added to a Highlighter question is 2880 x 2880 pixels. However, we recommend that you use images that are 1024 x 1024 pixels or smaller to avoid issues when you view Highlighter results in a heat map.
Note:
  • In heat maps, images are automatically resized if they exceed 1024 x 1024 pixels.
  • If you go beyond 2880 pixels, the image is cut off. Ensure that you preview the survey to check how participants will see each question.
  • The application does not stop you from using an image that is wider than your skin. Preview the survey and resize the image if necessary.
