Remove profile variables

Remove unwanted profile variables from the application.

Removed profile variables no longer appear on the Profile Variables page, in members' profile data, or in CSV exports. Also, they cannot be used in survey building, member sampling, forum moderation, or report filtering.

Removing a variable does not break objects that currently reference it. However, if you edit those later, you will have to fix any references to the removed variable.

If a Date profile variable is referenced by a Calculated Date profile variable, you cannot delete it. You must either change the Date profile variable referenced, or delete the Calculated Date profile variable before deleting the referenced Date profile variable.

  1. Open the Community app and click Community > Profile Variables at the top of the page.
Result: The profile variables for the entire community appear. By default, the table view displays up to 25 variables at a time.
  2. Optional: To sort variables by name, click the Variable Name column.
  3. Optional: To browse variables, click < or > to view the previous or next 25 variables.
  4. Optional: To search for a variable by name, in the Find field, type your search term, and then press Enter.
  5. Select the checkboxes beside the variables you want to remove.
  6. Click Remove.
  7. In the Remove Profile Variables dialog, click Remove to confirm your selections.
Note: A profile variable that has been removed cannot be created again; however, you can re-import it. For more information on how to restore a profile variable see, Import members or profile variables.
