Translate questions
If a survey study or library has more than one language enabled, add a translation for each question.

Translate the questions.
Option Steps To use the translation portal - Do one of the
following:
- If you are using an external translation vendor, send the translation link and passcode (found at the bottom of the Languages tab) to the vendor.
- If you are
translating the
survey, click the translation portal link on
the
Languages tab, and then log on to
the site.
The default survey language and translation language are indicated at the top of the page, and the list of questions is visible on the left side of the portal.
- To see the content
of the first question, click its name.
On the right side of the portal, each question part is shown in the default survey language.
Note: Regional Maps questions do not display answers in the translation portal because they have already been translated by the system. - In the blank text
box below each question part, enter the translation.
If any questions or answers are blank in the default language, the question appears in the translation portal with the text No translation required. You can add text in the language you are adding or leave the field blank.
- Click
Save Changes.
Tip: Save your changes frequently to avoid losing your work.
- Repeat steps 2 to 4 for each question.
To translate on the Questionnaire or Library tab - Do one of the
following:
- In the survey study, click the Questionnaire tab.
- In the library, click the Library tab.
- On the left,
select a question to translate.
The question appears in the default survey language.
- From the
Languages list on the top-right,
select the language that you want to translate the question into.
The authoring language and the default instruction text appear in the new authoring language. The question and answer text are blank.
- In the blank question and answer fields, enter the translations, and then click Save.
- Select the next question in the Question tree, and then repeat steps 3 and 4 for each question.
When you validate the survey, this language is included in the validation.
- Do one of the
following:

Validate the translation.
Note: When you validate a survey, any translations that are set to Disabled or In Progress are not included in the validation. You can use these settings to create a survey in one language and then deploy it before any translations are complete.
- On the Languages tab, click the status of the translation that you want to validate.
- In the Translation dialog, select Completed, ready for validation.

Do one of the following:
- In the survey study, click the Questionnaire tab.
- In the library, click the Library tab.

On the toolbar, click
Validate.
- If the survey is valid, a success message appears.
- If the survey is not valid, an error message appears.
- Optional:
If the
survey was approved before you translated the
questions,
Publish a power survey.
Tip: Perform this step if you are publishing a translation in a live survey.
