Filters

A filter is a series of conditions (based on profile values, or questions and corresponding answers) that determines which participants' answers are included in a report. Use filters to focus your data analysis on one particular group of participants.

You can use the following to filter report data:

  • Profile variables
  • Choice questions (Single and Multiple Choice)
  • Rows from Grid questions (Single and Multiple Choice)
  • Number questions
  • Allocation questions
  • Rank Order questions
  • Date questions

Date questions, ResponseDate, and CompletionDate are supported. However, you cannot use Date profile variables to create a filter condition.

Note: Keep these considerations in mind when working with profile variable values:
  • If you are in Report, the response in reports, filters, and subgroups reflects the most up-to-date profile variable value.
    Example

A member's profile variable value for their City State is Idaho at the time Survey A is completed. But the following day, they updated their City State to Rhode Island. When you go back to Report in Survey A, the new profile variable value, Rhode Island is used in reports, filters, and subgroups.

  • A profile action question that is answered but incomplete will result in the current value not being reflected anywhere but Report. This is because the survey is incomplete.
  • If it is a memberstatus value or if you perform a system upload, the current value is consistent across the application.

For more information, see Profile variables, Perform a system upload and Import members or profile variables.

The following question types are currently not supported for filters:

Note: Null values are excluded from both Include and Exclude filters.
