Use profile variables or
survey questions to create subgroup definitions and compare results
between different segments.
-
On the report toolbar, click
Subgroup.
-
In the
Subgroup dialog, click
+ Subgroup.
-
Select your subgroup source:

-
Select a profile variable or question.
- Type a
profile variable or question name in the search field.
- Click the arrow
button to the right of the search field, and select a
profile variable or question from the list.
Note:
- To be used for subgroups, a profile variable must have 50 or
fewer values.
- The check boxes next
to the answer values are for merging subgroups. To show or hide answer values
in your report, create a filter. For more information, see
Create and apply a filter.
- The application uses the
most current profile variable value.
-
Click
Add.
Result: A list of subgroups appear.
- Optional:
Merge subgroups.
-
Click
Apply.
Look for these indications that your subgroup definition was
added successfully:
- The
Subgroups toolbar displays a count of the
subgroup definitions currently in the report.
- Below the
Subgroups toolbar, a blue menu displays
the profile variable or question you added, which indicates it is currently being
used for subgroups.
- Each question now has
multiple charts (a total chart and a chart for each subgroup), instead of one
chart that displays overall totals.
- Optional:
Repeat steps 1 to 7 to add another set of subgroup definitions.
You can add as many profile variables or
questions as you want and switch between subgroup views.
Note:
- The survey that you open
and create a report for is your primary survey. When you select a question from
a secondary survey (another survey) as your subgroup source, a subset of the
response data is added to the report. Data from the secondary survey is only
included when it comes from participants in your primary survey.
- The participation status
(complete, incomplete, or both) setting for the report also applies to the
secondary survey.
Using questions from another survey as a subgroup source and
response data |
---|
You are viewing a report about exercise. The report is set to
include data from participants who have completed the survey (participation
status is
Complete).
You want to compare results between professional and amateur
athletes. In a secondary survey (another survey), you asked participants a
question about their athletic status. You use the athletic status question to
create a subgroup definition.
For a participant's data to be included in the report, the
participant must have completed both the primary and secondary surveys. Even if
the participant has started the secondary survey and there is data recorded for
the athletic status question, their response will not be added to the report.
