Add a portal welcome message

Add a message on the portal home page to welcome members.

Note:
  • This content about Community portals applies to new customers who do not have Member Hubs. Upgraded customers use Member Hubs, or continue to use their portal setup from Sparq 1.
  • Author users cannot access Community, portal, and theming setup functionality.

Regular welcome message updates can help members feel more engaged over time.

You can use the welcome message to:

  • Highlight newly launched activities
  • Post news
  • Provide weekly or monthly updates
  • Let members know if their feedback influenced any recent decisions your company has made
Example
  1. Open the Community app and click Community > Member Experience at the top of the page.
  2. Click Portal Content.
  3. From the View Widgets for menu, select the community.
This step applies only if you have multiple communities.
  4. In the Create a new widget area, click a widget type.
Configuring the welcome message is the same as configuring the content widget types. For more information, see:
  5. Click Save.
Result: The widget appears at the top of the Widgets pane and a preview of the widget appears in the Preview area.
  6. Optional: To show or hide the widget, on the Widget toolbar, click the Show/Hide button.
Note: Hidden widgets appear dimmed in the Widgets pane.
Result: The application automatically saves the changes you make to the show/hide setting. However, the changes are not live until you click Publish.
  7. To get an idea of how the widgets are arranged on the portal home page, click Preview.
Result: A preview of the portal home page opens in a new tab.
  8. To publish widget changes, click Publish.
Tip: As a best practice, the welcome message should be displayed at the top of the portal home page. After you add new widgets, you will have to move the welcome message to the top of the Widgets pane to ensure the welcome message is one of the first things members see. For more information, see Reorder a widget.
