Create a Group Answers recode in modern reports

Use the Group Answers recode to recategorize answers, rename answers, or exclude answers from your report.

Prerequisites:

Open the modern report.

Note: This feature is currently only available to early access program (EAP) customers. For information on joining the EAP, contact your Customer Success Manager.

The following features are not currently supported for Group Answers recodes:

  • Creating filters.
  • Applying significance testing to tiles based on the recode.
  • Applying weighting to tiles based on a recode.
  1. On the report toolbar, click Recodes.
  2. Do one of the following:
    1. To add your first recode, click New Recode in the center of the Editor.
    2. To add additional recodes, click Add Field(s) in the top right of the Editor.
  3. In the Choose the Type of Recode page, select Group Answers.
    The following field types are supported by the Group Answers recode:
    Questions Profile Variables Response Data
    • Single Choice
    • Single Choice Grid
    • Rating
    • Single Choice
    • Display Type
    • Respondent Locale
    • Response Status
    • Dataset Type
  4. In the Set the Recode Rule page, enter the following information about the recode:
    • Recode Name: The display name for the recode in the report.
    • Recode Description: Optional. The description of the recode. For example, add a sentence to document the purpose of the recode.
    • Based On: Select the field to base the recode on from the drop-down list. You can choose from survey questions, response data, and profile variables.
  5. Use any of the following options to define the groups for the recode:
    1. Select answers: Modify the selected answers in the Answers column, as needed. You can select the exact answers to include for each group.
    2. Name groups: Rename any of the entries in the Groups column. You can change the default name assigned to the group.
    3. Add groups: Click Add Group to add a custom group to the recode. You need to select the answers to include in the group and enter a name for the group.
    4. Remove groups: Click the minus sign next to any groups you do not want to include. Answers that are not included in any of the groups used by the recode are not used in any report calculations.
    5. Add a Top 2 Box: (Coming soon) Click Add "Top 2 Box" to create a new group that contains the first two positive responses.

      A Top 2 Box is used to summarize the top two positive responses from a Likert scale by combining them in a single group.

    6. Add a Bottom 2 Box: (Coming soon) Click Add "Bottom 2 Box" to create a new group that contains the last two negative responses.

      A Bottom 2 Box is used to summarize the bottom two negative responses from a Likert scale by combining them in a single group.

  6. If you want to add a tile for the recode to your report, select the Automatically add a new data tile using this recode checkbox.
    The new data tile is automatically added to the bottom of your report when you create the recode.
  7. Click Done.
