Create a Group Dates recode in modern reports

Use the Group Dates recode to divide continuous date ranges into groups. For example, you can sort participants into generation groups based on a birth year question or profile variable.

Prerequisites:

Open the modern report.

You can use the recode in your report in the following ways:

Note: Dates are evaluated as midnight Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
  1. On the report toolbar, click Recodes.
  2. Do one of the following:
    1. To add your first recode, click New Recode in the center of the Editor.
    2. To add additional recodes, click New Recode in the top right of the Editor.
  3. In the Choose the Type of Recode page, select Group Dates.
    The following field types are supported by the Group Dates recode:
    Questions Profile Variables Response Data
    • Date
    • Date
    • Response Start Date
    • Response Completed Date
  4. In the Set the Recode Rule page, enter the following information about the recode:
    • Recode Name: The display name for the recode in the report.
    • Recode Description: Optional. The description of the recode. For example, add a sentence to document the purpose of the recode.
    • Based On: Select the field to base the recode on from the drop-down list. You can choose from supported survey questions, profile variables, and response data fields.
  5. Add the required groups to your recode:
    • On or before <date>: Select the date for the initial group from the calendar and enter a name for the group. All responses on or before this date will be included.
    • Add a group: To add one or more additional groups, click Add Group, select the end date for the group from the calendar, and enter a name for the group.
    • On or after <date>: Select the date from the final group from the calendar and enter a name for the group. All responses on or after this date will be included.
    • Remove a group: If necessary, you can remove any of the groups you add by clicking the minus button next to the group.

      The following recode example creates groups for commonly defined generations based on the members' birth dates.

  6. If you want to add a tile for the recode to your report, select the Automatically add a new data tile using this recode checkbox.
    The new data tile is automatically added to the bottom of your report when you create the recode.
  7. Click Done.
