Create a Date question

Ask participants to enter a properly formatted date as an answer.

In desktop view, participants can enter their answer in the answer field, or select their answer using the Calendar button.

In mobile view, participants use the date pickers on their smartphones to enter a properly formatted date.

The date format that participants see depends on their Community's locale.

Note: Date values are stored in standard UTC format and are converted to your regional date format when you export survey data to an Excel, CSV, or SPSS file.
  1. From the Survey Builder Toolbox, under Questions, do one of the following:
    • Drag the Date question to the Table of Contents.
    • Click the Date question.
  2. In the Table of Contents, click the Date question.
    Result: The Edit Pane appears.
  3. Optional: Edit the Question name.

    Question names:

    • Should be unique.
    • Can contain symbols and all alphanumeric characters.
    • Are not displayed to participants.
  4. In the Question text field, enter the question text.
    Note: The recommended character limit is 2500.
  5. Optional: Edit the Minimum and maximum year values.
    By default, participants must enter a date that falls between 1900 and the current year.
    Result: Participants must enter a date that falls within your Minimum Year and Maximum Year specifications.

    This option controls whether the application purges personally identifiable information collected through this question, for members who have become inactive. System variables such as FirstName, LastName, and email are flagged as sensitive data by default. For more information, see Sensitive data.

    Note: Admins can change this setting. To change this setting as a Power User or an Author, you must have Can access sensitive data enabled.
  8. Optional: To preview the question in desktop or mobile view, in the Edit Pane, click Preview.
    Result: A preview of your survey appears, starting with the selected question.
    Note: Preview in mobile view simulates the mobile experience. For best results, preview your question on a mobile device.
