Create a Multiple Choice question

Ask participants to select one or more answers from a list of possible answers.

Tip: For a more visually engaging question, add an image to your question text or your answers. For more information, see Add an image to an answer.
  1. From the Survey Builder Toolbox, under Questions, do one of the following:
    • Drag the Multiple Choice question to the Table of Contents.
    • Click the Multiple Choice question.
  2. In the Table of Contents, click the Multiple Choice question.
    Result: The Edit Pane appears.
  3. Optional: Edit the Question name.

    Question names:

    • Should be unique.
    • Can contain symbols and all alphanumeric characters.
    • Are not displayed to participants.
  4. In the Question text field, enter the question text.
    Note: The recommended character limit is 2500.
  5. In the Answers text fields, enter the answer text.
  6. Optional: Add another answer by clicking Add.
    Tip:
    • To create a line break within an answer, type Shift+Enter if you are on a PC, or Shift+Return if you are on a Mac.
    • To create a new answer, type Enter if you are on a PC, or Return if you are on a Mac.
    • To enter multiple values at the same time, click Add Answers in Batch. For more information, see Add answers in a batch.
  7. Optional: Move an answer by doing one of the following:
    • Grab the answer using the Drag handle on the left side of the answer text, and move it up or down.
    • Click Options and select Move up or Move down.
  8. Optional: Delete an answer by clicking More > Remove.
  9. Optional: Once you have authored your question, you can also:
  10. Optional: Select Treat other/specify text response as sensitive data.

    This option controls whether the application purges personally identifiable information stored as part of this question's data, for members who have become inactive. System variables such as FirstName, LastName, and email are flagged as sensitive data by default. For more information, see Sensitive data.

    Note: Admins can change this setting. To change this setting as a Power User or an Author, you must have Can access sensitive data enabled.
  11. Optional: To preview the question in desktop or mobile view, in the Edit Pane, click Preview.
    Result: A preview of your survey appears, starting with the selected question.
    Note: Preview in mobile view simulates the mobile experience. For best results, preview your question on a mobile device.
