Preview a survey theme

Review and test a survey theme while authoring an activity.

  • The first time you preview your survey, the survey appears in the active community theme; if you have multiple communities, the active theme from the first alphabetically listed community is used.
  • Previewing a theme does not set the survey theme for distribution. To make a theme visible to participants, set the theme in the survey invitation or the survey link. For more information, see Create an invitation and Create a new activity link.
  1. Preview your survey.
    Option Description
    Preview the entire survey On the Build toolbar, click Preview.
    Begin the preview from a specific question
    • In the Edit Pane, click Preview.

    • In the Table of Contents, right-click the question and select Preview.
    Result: A preview of your survey appears in the last theme used to preview the survey. A footer at the bottom of the survey indicates that you are in test mode.
  2. Optional: Click Preview in desktop or Preview in mobile to toggle between desktop view and mobile view.
    The default for the first survey preview visit is desktop mode. If your screen is large enough, you can switch between desktop and mobile mode; the setting you choose will be used the next time you preview the survey.
  3. Select the community.

    This step applies only if you have multiple communities.

  4. From the Themes list, select the theme you want to preview.
    Note:
    • The active theme is prefixed with Active in the list.
    • Other themes are ordered alphabetically with capitalized words first, and then lower case words.
    Result: The survey refreshes to show the new theme.
  5. Optional: Take the survey.
    The results are recorded as test data.
The next time you preview your survey, the theme you selected from the list is displayed.
