The multilingual surveys workflow
For multiple communities with different locales, using a survey to collect data involves creating and translating your survey, distributing it to participants in each locale, and finally, analyzing your reports.
Step 1: Create a survey and set the default locale
From the Activities page, create a survey. You can also import a survey and use that as a starting point. For multiple communities with different locales, you will need to set the Locale to author your survey. The locale selected to create the survey becomes the default locale.
Step 2: Author your survey in the Editor workspace
Author your survey in the Editor workspace. The application provides all the tools you need to author your survey. For more information, see Survey Builder.
Step 3: Translate your survey in the Translations workspace
When you are done authoring your survey in the Editor workspace, translate your survey for other available locales in the Translations workspace:
- Assign locales to be translatable in your survey using Manage Locales.
- Batch translate your survey by exporting a translations source file from your survey to create a template to import batch translations.
- Switch between locales in your survey using the locale switcher to add translations or to make edits to translated content.
- Use AWS Bedrock to auto-translate survey text.
- Add translated versions of images and alt text.
- Add translated subtitle files for videos.
Step 4: Test your translated survey
When you are done authoring and translating your survey, test your multilingual survey in a preview to ensure it is ready for participants.
Step 5: Distribute your survey to each locale
After you finish testing your translated survey, you can distribute it to participants in each locale and begin collecting quantitative data. Create a separate invitation or activity link for each locale by selecting the community associated with the locale.
Ideally, you should complete all translations before distributing a survey for the first time. However, if you need to distribute the survey in its default locale before translations are complete, the application will not prevent you from doing so.
Step 6: Monitor your survey
On the Monitor page, you can view summary statistics for your entire survey, and a statistical breakdown for each question. For more information, see Survey participation.
Step 7: Analyze response data
On the Report page, you can view tabular response data for each question in your survey. You can also perform a wide range of data analysis tasks. For more information, see Report.
